At Amsterdam airport, waiting for our KLM Jumbo Jet to take us to New York
JFK airport. We don't know each other too well yet; we have just flown a small
two-propeller airplane from Luxemburg airport. We have been through the security gate,
where some of us were double-checked as the alarm bell had rung tempestuously!
How nice it was
to be welcomed with a French flag carried by dear old Marty, always eager to make us feel
at home. We managed to get through the US customs with all our victuals. Fortunately
for us the US Customs Agricultural dog, in charge of sniffing the baggage, was more
interested in the garbage cans than in all our French cheeses, red wines, pâtés,
champagne and what not!

While waiting for the bus to take us to New York City.
On the last
day, the American families organized a farewell party for all of us, with French and
American flags, giant sandwiches that were at least 3 meters long and a big Farewell cake!
Dr Farrell and Mr. Cardinale made speeches in which they thanked all those involved in the
Exchange, Mrs. Gail Beaufay and Diane Russcoll of Masters School, Jenny Lyons who
put up the French teachers and Mrs. Bourgeois, the other French teacher in charge.
At the famous
restaurant "Planet Hollywood" where we had a big hamburger with French Fries and
as much Coke as we wanted: "when in Rome do as the Romans do"! At the far end of
the picture you can see a red helmet with horns: this helmet was worn by an actor in
"Dead Poet Society" (Le Cercle des Poètes Disparus) .
