The Chrysler Building
WalterP. Chrysler founded in 1925 the corporation bearing his name. The stainless steel Art Deco spire resembles a car radiator grill. William Van Alen's 77-story Chrysler building is still among the city's best-known and most loved landmarks.
Completed in 1883, the Brooklyn bridge became the largest suspension brifge and the first to be made of steel. The bridge, built by John A. Roebling, took 16 years to buil, required 600 workers and claimed over 20 lives, including Roebling's. Most died of caisson disease after coming up from the underwater excavation chambers. The bridge linked Manhattan and Brooklyn, then two separate cities.
