Learn about 'growing your own' and how to get the best from your vegetable patch with new monthly classes at Beenleigh Meadows Farm near Totnes.

Tour our terraced Kitchen Garden, then select and gather ingredients for an afternoon's cooking at Harberton Village Hall.             

Pick up tips on growing, harvesting, storing and cooking.   Enjoy the 'Field to Fork' experience at first hand!

Sunday 19th of September is Beenleigh Harvest Festival! – for which Steph will probably give you some publicity directly for, but Apple will also be doing some Dig and Dine there also.

KITCHEN GARDENING SESSIONS  2010

BEENLEIGH MEADOWS FARM

Near Harberton, Totnes

Come and learn how to create a new vegetable garden on the terraced slopes at Beenleigh Meadows Farm.

New weekly courses show you simple and practical ways to grow your own! 

Following the gardening calendar through March and April we will sow, tend and harvest, practice storing and preserving and learn a bit about the history of plants and their culinary uses as well as the bonus of taking some produce home!

March 13th Onion sets, spring onions, garlic and ‘chitting’ potatoes.

March 20th Starting salads plus container painting of woody herbs such as rosemary, thyme and lavender.

March 27th Root vegetables, carrots, beetroots and parsnips.

April 3rd Kids special – sprouting seeds, make a funny egg person that will grow its own hair! Plus sunflower seeds.

April 10th Planting pots, sugar-snap and petit-pois peas, onions for pickling.

April 17th Brassicas, summer cabbages, sprouting broccoli and curly kale.

April 24th Fruit and flowers: planting the strawberry patch, plus edible flowers such as nasturtium, marigold and borage.

1st May - Sowing sweetcorn, outdoor cucumber and planting tomato varieties

8th May - Sowing and stalking runner and french beans, peas and summer savoury

15th May - Container sowing of courgette, pumpkin and squash plus salad herbs

29th May - Giant Week!, planting of 'champion giant' cabbage, 'atlantic giant' pumpkin and 'jersey tree' kale

5th June – Sowing root vegetables and cut and come again salads

12th June – Creating willow supports to use in the vegetable garden

19th June – Earthing up potatoes, planting swiss chard, thinning leeks.

26th June – Harvesting lettuce, edible flowers and herbs preparing salad bowl recipes

Wildlife Mapping, Focus on Fungi, Birdlife & Mammals

10 � 4pm: Map your garden, patio, park or farm! How you and your patch can benefit from scientific techniques to map & log the bioversity seen and unseen. Focus is on fungi, larger mammals, grasses, trees, flowers & larger birds of prey. Includes multimedia presentation & handouts to take home. Tea & coffee provided, bring a packed lunch.

£10.00 adult / £5.00 child age 5-16 (max. 2 children per adult).

Fungal Foray and Fry Up: the ever pupular mushroom quest! Seek out and cook up the fungi you find - Dr Taylor can guide you in identifying and frying (or not) what you've got!

26th and 27th September - Scything & Haymaking at Landmatters Permaculture Project
