MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

Having followed a career in special needs housing, social work and research, I trained in art as a mature student. I live in Devon and work as a sculptor and photographer. Alongside this, I continue to work freelance in the development of housing and residential care for people with special needs. I am also involved in running art workshops.

Professional Development

It is important to me to keep developing as an artist and my ‘continuing professional development’ involves using training and peer support in a variety of ways, including membership of the Devon Artists Network and taking part in group ‘open studio’ exhibitions. Since leaving college, I have attended courses in many techniques including cold casting, African stone carving, clay modelling from life, painting, life drawing, computer graphics and desk top publishing.

Exhibitions

I exhibit regularly in sculpture gardens, galleries and art fairs, and work to commission. I have shown work at the Mythic Garden on Dartmoor, Art Haven in Exeter, the Royal Devon & Exeter Health Care Arts Trust, the Nine Days of Art in Devon, the South West Contemporary Art Fair and the RISE Exhibition. I also hold ‘open studio’ events. MY work is held in private collections around the country. In 2006 I will be showing work at the Mythic Garden near Chagford, Artspace in Henley, the Court Barton Art Exhibition at Thorverton, and Glastonbury.

Pricing

Until recently the cost of my sculptures has reflected the fact that stone carving is very time consuming. As well as carving I have now started making casts in marble and limestone and this makes it possible to sell sculptures at more affordable prices. I have also developed a new series of gallery quality prints from photographs and paintings, and a range of greetings cards and postcards.
